02 · The Climate Challenge · 15%

A Policy Crisis Created
a Market Vacuum

🌍

The Dependency

80–90% of all Malawi housing uses fired clay bricks. No viable large-scale alternative existed. The entire construction sector depended on a single input material produced the same way for decades.

🔥

The Destruction

Firewood-fired kilns burned Malawi's forests at critical rates, making Malawi one of Africa's fastest-deforesting nations. The Mulanje Massif — a UNESCO biosphere — faced direct threat from deforestation.

⚖️

The Ban

Government enacted Act No. 28 of 2025 — firewood-fired bricks are now illegal. Overnight: massive demand, zero legal supply. Construction projects across the country stalled.

RESULT: Every contractor, developer, NGO & government project urgently needs a legally compliant brick alternative. NEVAGS is the only industrial-scale solution in Mulanje District.

03 · Climate-Smart Solution

Vertical Shaft Kiln (VSK)
Powered by Biomass Briquettes

1

Agricultural Waste Collected

Rice husks, maize cobs & crop residue sourced directly from local farmers — turning waste into high-value fuel.

2

Biomass Briquettes Made On-Site

Industrial briquette machine compresses agricultural waste into dense, high-energy fuel blocks. No firewood needed.

3

VSK Kiln Fires Bricks at 900–1,100°C

Continuous-feed vertical shaft kiln delivers consistent, industrial-grade firing using only biomass fuel.

4

Certified Eco Bricks Sold to Market

100% policy-compliant bricks at Malawi QS-rated prices — the only legal alternative to cement blocks.

✔ Zero Firewood ✔ Act 28/2025 Compliant ✔ Circular Economy ✔ First in Mulanje District ✔ Biogas 2nd Kiln Planned

05 · Environmental Sustainability

Zero Deforestation.
Full Circular Economy.

🌳

Zero Deforestation

VSK + biomass briquettes eliminate 100% of firewood use. Directly protects the Mulanje Massif — a UNESCO biosphere under threat from traditional brick kilns.

♻️

Circular Economy

Agricultural waste → fuel briquettes → fired bricks → kiln ash → soil amendment for local farmers. Every stage of production creates value, nothing is discarded.

Clean Energy

90%+ biomass self-sufficiency. Solar backup power on-site. Biogas-powered 2nd kiln shaft planned in 14 months — the first of its kind in Malawi.

🌡️

Climate Resilience

Atmosfair (Germany) validates climate compliance. GIZ provides technical certification. Full Scope 1/2/3 emission tracking built into NEVAGS ERP system.

💧

Resource Efficiency

On-site borehole for water independence. Closed-loop water system in design. VSK technology uses 30–40% less fuel than traditional clamp kilns.

📋

Standards & Compliance

MBS MS 858 (briquettes) & MS 175 (fired bricks) standards being procured. CIRA Act No. 28/2025 fully compliant. Environmental audit in progress with TERA.
